Events at St. Andrew

Mid-Week Lent Worship
We continue to offer mid-week worship every Wednesday of Lent at 7:00 pm in the chapel, continuing through March 25.
This year we are singing Mountain Vespers, which comes out of Holden Village. Each service includes a scripture reading and reflection from a member of the congregation.

Palm Sunday Faith Actions: Reclaiming Christianity in the Public Square
Christians stand for loving our neighbors. We stand for healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and welcoming the stranger. We stand for telling the truth, and honoring the dignity and worth of every child of God.
On Palm Sunday, March 29, Christians across the country will stand up to the rise of authoritarianism and white Christian nationalism. We will stand against the politics of greed, cruelty, and oppression by continuing to show the country that our central commandments—to love God and love our neighbors—are our way forward.
On the day Christians celebrate as Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey—a symbol of a just, humble leader who cares for the poor, the hungry, the sick, and the stranger—in opposition to the greed, cruelty, and oppression of the Roman Empire. Christians will follow Jesus and embody the heart of our faith on Palm Sunday 2026. We will draw a contrast to the values guiding the actions of the current administration as we embody and celebrate our love for God and love for our neighbors, regardless of where we come from or what we look like.
We proclaim a faith that centers love for our neighbors and rejects a politics rooted in greed and cruelty. To be a Christian is to choose love. Join together with other Christians at one of the Palm Sunday Faith Actions listed below. Attendees are encouraged to bring palm branches and/or protest signs with hope-filled messages (e.g. Blessed are the Peacemakers, Love > Hate, Christians Against Christian Nationalism). If you’d like to register, you can do so at bit.ly/47doZsj. If you’d like to carpool to one of these events with other St. An-drew members, please reach out to Pr. Allison Bengfort. Nearby location options are:
12:00 pm at Washington County Courthouse in Hillsboro, 145 NE 2nd Ave, Hillsboro
3:00 pm at Terry Schrunk Plaza in Downtown Portland, 431 SW Madison St, Portland

Meal Train Is Now at St. Andrew!
One of the ways we live out our life together at St. Andrew is by showing up for one another in very practical, human ways—especially when life throws an unexpected curveball. We’re now using Meal Train as a simple, coordinated way to offer meals during short-term moments of need: a new baby, a surgery, an illness, or another sudden life event. This is not for ongoing food assistance, but for those surprise seasons when a little extra care makes a big difference. Kim Taylor-Blakemore is the administrator. Read more…

Adult Education Class: What Can the Epistles Teach Us About Our Church
The Epistles are letters written by Apostles to early Christian churches, and in some cases individual early Christians. These letters are an inside look into the early days of Christianity, with all the inherent problems and challenges any group of believers may struggle with. We will look at the problems those churches faced, as well as the advice and counsel given by the Apostles. In so doing, we will look to see what we can learn about the challenges faced by St. Andrew and the wider Church, and seek out guidance from the Apostles to meet those challenges. Paul Navarre will lead this three-week series during the adult education hour in the Fellowship Hall, beginning Sunday, March 1, at 11:00 am.

Adult Education
“If adult education does not become a priority for a congregation, at some point that congregation will cease to exist because its members will simply not know or understand the purpose of the congregation and their role in fulfilling that purpose.” —Neal Boese, Blueprint for Change, page 83.

Children & Youth
Children are not the “future” of the church; they ARE the church. Our Director of Next Generational Ministry, Kyler Vogt, is continuing to connect children, youth, and adult mentors during this time when connection is more important than ever.

Doubt and Darkness
Fear is rampant today. It drives our society into a frenzy of traps we hope will bring us longed-for security and iron-clad safety. For many, our facile attempts to find answers or solutions in religion no longer work. There seems to be no permanently safe place to settle. But might it be that in the midst of our angst, in the places where we all hang on for dear life, new birth can take place?
