ProFuture Faith: The Prodigal Species Comes Home
We are living in challenging and confusing times when religion and science each have a vital role to play in assisting humanity in coming home to reality. Given our impact on Earth’s climate, soils, seas, forests, and other species, we are already in the early stages of what could be called the Great Reckoning. The good news is that this could also be the Great Homecoming: humanity—the prodigal species—after squandering our inheritance, coming home to life by honoring evidence as authoritative and ecology as the heart of theology.
ProFuture Faith: The Prodigal Species Comes Home is a curriculum developed by the Reverend Michael Dowd which features video presentations and group discussion. Rev. Dowd was a minister and author of the highly acclaimed book, Thank God for Evolution, as well as a well-known lecturer and passionate advocate for ecotheology. Join Pr. Colleen Nelson and Ruth Nickodemus for this six-week course during the adult education hour on Sundays in Fellowship Hall beginning April 12 at 11:00 am.

The Three E’s of Superaging: Engagement, Exercise, and Easing into Sleep
Friday, May 1, at 1:00 pm
Fellowship Hall
Aging with Grace, a small faith group of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, invites you to come and learn strategies that you can incorporate into your life to live longer and healthier! Dr. Laura Byerly, an OHSU Geriatrician, will be sharing “Superaging 3Es: Engagement, Exercise, and Easing into Sleep.” In this session, Dr. Byerly will share current evidence for healthy aging strategies and give practical tips that can help improve your quality of life.
Dr. Byerly is a geriatrician at Oregon Health & Science University. She cares for older adults in primary care and nursing home settings. Dr. Byerly is passionate about age-friendly education, particularly in rural and underserved areas. As the program director for the HRSA-supported Oregon Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP), she leads a team that develops and implements curriculum and programming to train and improve care for older adults in tribal, underserved, and rural communities.
This presentation will be Friday, May 1, at 1:00 pm in Fellowship Hall at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. It is free to attend, no registration is required, and all are welcome! If you have questions, contact Hilary Hutchinson at hilaryhutch@yahoo.com.

Contemplative Prayer
Mondays through May 11
Monday evening Contemplative Prayer, led by Kim Taylor-Blakemore, is held each week at 7:00 pm in the chapel. This worship opportunity continues through May 11, and will resume in the fall after a summer hiatus.

Ecumenical Event for Young Adults
Sunday, April 26 is the first iteration of a new experimental event for young adults, thanks to a collaboration between clergy and lay-leaders at St. Andrew, Spirit of Grace, Cedar Hills UCC, and First UMC Cedar Mill. For this first event, young adults (ages 18-40) will gather from 5:30-7:30pm at Mazatlan Restaurant in Goose Hollow for an evening of drinks, fellowship, and deeper conversation. The topic of the night is truth–how do we recognize it despite living in an era of AI, propaganda, and misinformation? If you’re interested in attending, RSVP with Kyler and invite a friend to join you! Read more…

Adult Education
“If adult education does not become a priority for a congregation, at some point that congregation will cease to exist because its members will simply not know or understand the purpose of the congregation and their role in fulfilling that purpose.” —Neal Boese, Blueprint for Change, page 83.

Children & Youth
Children are not the “future” of the church; they ARE the church. Our Director of Next Generational Ministry, Kyler Vogt, is continuing to connect children, youth, and adult mentors during this time when connection is more important than ever.

Doubt and Darkness
Fear is rampant today. It drives our society into a frenzy of traps we hope will bring us longed-for security and iron-clad safety. For many, our facile attempts to find answers or solutions in religion no longer work. There seems to be no permanently safe place to settle. But might it be that in the midst of our angst, in the places where we all hang on for dear life, new birth can take place?
