Sunday Morning Faith Formation
Students in 9th-12th grades are invited to read and study scripture, ask big theological questions about God's presence and the work of God's people in the world, explore the history and beliefs of the Lutheran faith, and spend time connecting with one another on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45am. Students regularly gather in the Youth Room but will often join the larger congregation for study and fellowship on Sunday mornings. Check the calendar for updates.
Westside Youth Collective
The Westside Youth Collective consists of a number of ELCA congregations located on the west side of Portland, including St. Andrew. Student leaders from each congregation gather each year to develop faith formation and fellowship events to bring students and adult volunteers together to build a network of young people exploring the places God is moving in the ministries and people of the Portland metro region. This year, the Collective will engage in a number of activities ranging from pizza dinners and service projects to studying the work of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement, as well as exploring the impact of racism in our communities.
The 2010 National Study of Youth and Religion confirmed what many of us have experienced to be true: young people spend a majority of their time with peers but are most influenced spiritually by their parents and the adults in their lives. St. Andrew strives to help young people seek balance by creating space to be shaped and formed alongside peers, as well as space to engage in ministry with adults and leadership formation with children.
Amanda Bollman partners with St. Andrew to shepherd high school students in Christian formation, justice and service ministries, congregational and community leadership, and theological reflection. Amanda spends her time providing administrative oversight for ministries involving youth, developing curriculum for youth and intergenerational ministries, laughing and dreaming with young people, and helping adults listen to the deepest yearnings of teenagers while making spaces for their voices and their gifts.
If you have questions about what our students are up to or how to become involved in ministry with young people, please contact Amanda.
