What's New

January 2008 Update

The key point in this update is that we have decided to delay construction for at least 6 months.   Original schedule called for breaking ground this spring.  Due to reasons listed below, we have decided to delay construction.  We have made significant progress on getting additional User-Group input which has proved very valuable and filled in key information gaps.  One outcome of User-Group feedback was to refer short-term sound improvements for Fellowship Hall and Choir Loft to the Property Committee.

Accomplishments since August 2007
October-November 2007
User Group Meetings – early November
Wall-to-wall inventory of furnishings and storage (existing and future) accomplished through User-Groups and office staff
Working meetings with User-Groups
Representatives from User-Groups met with Interior Designer
Revised plans incorporating input from User-Groups.
Identified storage spaces
Revised layout to accommodate User-Group input
December 2007
Interviewed and selected construction contractor Triplett-Wellman to work with Architect during design phase
Met with Financial Team to get update on potential construction budget

Construction Schedule will be delayed 6+ months
Architect delayed in getting started till November.
Original Construction plans didn’t match facility.  Required updating figures.
Original schedule aggressive, need to take time to do it right w/user groups etc.
Delay will allow us to optimize and take advantage of in-kind contributions during construction.
Minimize impact to pre-school this school year, allow for planning for next year.
Allows time for permitting/conditional use permit on our schedule.
Financial Team feedback on financial capability for construction budget.
Upcoming Milestones:
January:  Receive financial team input on budget.  Submitting working estimate of around $4.9 million to MIF; hope to get feedback on what they are willing to lend us.
February:  Assess financial capability and scope new building program to that capability.
March-July:  Work with contractor and Architect on final design plans for Phase I (includes further in-depth involvement of User-Groups).
Fall 2008:  Award construction contract.
Fall 2008/Spring 2009:  Break ground on facility addition.

Monday, November 12th: “User-Group” Meetings with Marci Harris, Interior Designer
Today is the day Facilities Team representatives and representatives from each "User-Group" at St. Andrew give Marci all the data from our recent meetings!   She will have a couple weeks to put it all together, tweak the current layout, and come back to us with her work.  Further tweaking will follow for a couple weeks yet after that.  It's getting exciting!

Thursday, November 8th & Saturday, November 10th, 2007: “User-Group” Meetings
We’re gearing up for big meetings on Thursday, November 8th and Saturday, November 10th for everyone who uses our building to talk about shared space, the “stuff” we need, and any other ideas, suggestions and concerns that haven’t yet been voiced.  Now’s the time to bring up anything we’ve missed, as this is the beginning of the FINAL PHASE of PLANNING.  In a couple weeks, the final drawings will be completed readying the way for the planned ground-breaking on Easter Sunday — March 23, 2008.  Please attend on Thursday and/or Saturday!

November 6, 2007
The Facilities Team is working with Marci Harris in planning the upcoming “User-Group” Meetings.  The information gathered and submitted to Marci will allow her to draw the Final Building Drawings!  We are excited to be on track for groundbreaking on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008.
